The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most popular and historical paths in the world. It’s also the only trail that leads you directly to Machu Picchu by foot through the Sun Gate. However, here are some important tips you should consider before you book it:
The Inca Trail closes in February as it is the most intense month of the rainy season.
Inca Trail availability is exclusively controlled by the Peruvian authorities so there is no flexibility. The same availability rules apply to every agency in Peru.
There is no such thing as a WAITLIST / CANCELLATION LIST. If any agency tells you that they can do this, they are simply not telling the truth and are operating illegally! If a tourist cancels their space is not given to anyone else.
There are only 500 spaces a day for the Inca Trail which include all support staff (ie. porters, cooks and guides). The spaces are divided between 200 tourists and 300 porters.
Once this limit of 500 people is reached, the Inca Trail is effectively closed off for the day and no further bookings can be made.
We highly recommend that you book your Inca Trail permit on a day with more than 150 available spaces. Otherwise, you may not be able to camp in Wiñay Wayna campsite. Wiñay Wayna is one of the campsites on the Inca Trail nearest to Machu Picchu. Camping at Wiñay Wayna will allow you to arrive at Machu Picchu in time to witness sunrise on the last day of the Inca Trail.
Altitude sickness is serious and has the potential to ruin your trip. The biggest mistake you can make is to fly directly to Cuzco and expect to hike the next day. Give yourself several days to adjust to the altitude first. You will thank yourself for this during the trek.
In order to offer you a once in a lifetime experience, we have created different versions of the same Inca Trail that you can find in our Inca Trail section. Our itinerary stays ahead of the pack which allows us to use campsites that are less crowded, and which are away from the crowd. We use our own private portable eco-friendly toilets, rather than government crowded public toilets
Book your Inca Trail permit with us is really easy.
